Prenatal Care

Prenatal visits begin at 10 weeks. All of your care happens in the comfort of your own home. Anyone is welcome to be present during your visits. Each visit lasts 30 minutes to an hour giving ample time to grow our midwife-client relationship, counsel on nutrition, exercise, emotional well-being, remedies for common pregnancy discomforts, and birth preparation as well as assess blood pressure, fetal heart rate, fundal height and urinalysis.

Standard labs are collected in-home and include the initial prenatal panel, gestational diabetes screening and GBS screening. We do not offer ultrasounds in-home but we are able to order ultrasounds at other facilities as needed. Standard lab fees are included in our fee for care.

The prenatal care schedule is as follows: monthly visits until 28 weeks, biweekly visits until 36 weeks, weekly visits until birth.

A comprehensive, in-person childbirth education course is included in your care package.

*We require all clients to have standard labs and the anatomy scan ultrasound done in pregnancy.*

Homebirth

Beginning at 37 weeks your midwives are on call 24/7 for you in anticipation of labor, always reachable via call or text. Homebirth allows for laboring in the comfort of a familiar place surrounded by the people you wish to have present. You have complete control of your environment. Once active labor begins your midwife and birth assistant will arrive at your home with all the necessary supplies they will need, including emergency equipment (oxygen, IV supplies, anti-hemorrhagic medications). Midwives provide continuous support and intermittent monitoring throughout labor, birth and immediate postpartum for you and baby to ensure the health, comfort and safety of

you both.

We offer waterbirth as well as standard birth pool rental. Both are included in the package.

Birth assistants are a vital part of your birth team. They ensure the birth environment is clean and tidy, assist the midwife with charting during delivery and in the event of an emergency, sanitize and break down the birth pool, amongst many other things!

We allow for the "golden hour" immediately postpartum so that mother, baby and family are able to establish bonding via skin-to-skin and breastfeeding. Delayed cord clamping is standard of care in our practice.

We will be at your home for at least 2 hours after birth to continue to monitor mother and baby, provide sutures if necessary, breastfeeding support, a comprehensive newborn exam, and offering newborn medications if desired.

Postpartum Care

We provide 3 in-home postpartum visits at 48 hours, 2 weeks, and 6 weeks. We file the birth certificate and register the baby with Social Security. We offer the Newborn Metabolic Screening and Critical Congenital Heart Defect screening at the 48 hour visit. At the 6 week visit we offer well-women care including performing a pap smear and prescription for contraception, if desired. Breastfeeding support and assessment of baby's weight are offered at each visit.

We work with a Certified Lactation Consultant that will do an in-home visit with you anytime in the postpartum period. This visit is included in the care package.
